The Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars Program is the first merit-based and enrichment scholarship program at the University of Notre Dame, but the benefits for Scholars far exceed the monetary award. The Program is also a leadership development program that engages students throughout the academic year and summer.
Scholarship Award:
Each Hesburgh-Yusko Scholar receives four years of merit scholarship awards of $25,000 per year ($100,000 over four years) toward the cost of attending Notre Dame. Scholars enrolled in five-year undergraduate programs, such as in School of Architecture, may receive special consideration for continued funding through their fifth year.
Summer Enrichment Experiences:
Scholars participate in four Summer Enrichment experiences, beginning the summer prior to their first year. These summer experiences offer Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars unparalleled opportunities to develop and explore passions outside of the classroom. They will travel the world, discover new interests, identify true passions, refine lifelong pursuits, and lay the groundwork for future careers.
A Community of Scholars:
While at Notre Dame, Scholars participate in Program activities throughout the academic year designed to encourage engagement with other Scholars. Scholars gather on a regular basis to discuss their summer experiences, reflect on leadership and social service, and invite speakers who model transformational leadership. Social events, such as a fall outing to Chicago to explore the architecture and cultural offerings, also enrich Scholars’ undergraduate life at Notre Dame.
A Dedicated Program Staff:
The Scholars have access to the support and guidance of a full-time Program Staff who help them navigate through all facets of life at Notre Dame. The Staff is led by Professor Joseph Buttigieg, the Director of The Hesburgh-Yusko Scholars Program. Read about his background here.
